One of the most important ritual actions of the Passover festival is the Seder. Passover Seder takes place on the first night of the seven day which is celebrated with Seder dinner. The Passover Seder meal is a meal that Jewish families partake in remembrance of the Exodus. Before the reforms of King Josiah in 620 B.C. the Passover Seder was not all one meal. However, the holiday and eating of the sacrificial lamb took place inside of individual homes as partakers spread blood over their door posts before eating the meal. This ritual is deeply rooted in ancient times and has really special meaning for Seder feast. With the reforms of King Josiah all the male heads of homes were asked to bring an animal sacrifice to the temple in Jerusalem for the special occasion. As not all men could travel to the temple in Jerusalem, those who remained had the feast and took part in the activities excluding the sacrifice of the animal.

Seder dinner is also integral to Jewish faith and identity. If not for the Exodus, the Jewish people would still be in Egypt. Therefore, the Seder is an occasion for praise and thanksgiving and for re-dedication to the idea of liberation. The Seder goes on until late at night, with the participants reading the Haggadah, studying the meaning of various passages, and singing special Passover songs.

Seder is one of a few Jewish holidays that conducted in the family home with the guests being invited. In addition the words and rituals of the Seder are a primary vehicle for the transmission of the Jewish faith from parent to child and from one generation to the next.
