Torah
Torah primarily refers to the first section of the Tanakh, the first five books of the Tanach. The term is sometimes also used in the general sense to also include both of Judaism's written law and oral law, encompassing the entire spectrum of authoritative Jewish religious teachings throughout history, including the Mishnah, the Talmud, the Midrash, and more. Torah should come from desire primarily - but there will be times when the desire won't be there for whatever reason. Do we do as the rabbis say and "fake it" or what?
Torah is like a love letter: We read it again and again because through it we hear God's love for us. It is the lev - the lamed joined together with the bet - that closes the circle and draws us back to Torah year after year, to grow in our relationship with God and with one another. |
